A reflective journey into observing, understanding, and learning alongside young children.
Internship Program
Learning with Children
At Circles & Cycles, adults are co-learners alongside children. Curiosity, observation, and reflection guide our work each day.
Our internship program offers an opportunity to experience a Reggio Emilia inspired learning environment while developing the skills needed to work thoughtfully with young children.
Over the course of the internship, participants spend time observing classrooms, reflecting with mentors, and gradually participating in the life of the school.
Internship Structure
The internship takes place over six months and combines workshops, hands-on classroom learning, with guidance from an experienced mentor. Interns move through a series of stages that build understanding and confidence over time.
Observation and Reflection
Interns begin by observing sessions across programs at Circles & Cycles. Through guided reflection and discussion, they learn to notice how children explore ideas, interact with materials, and communicate their thinking.
Provocations
Interns learn how educators create thoughtful invitations for learning. Working alongside facilitators, they help plan and set up provocations that respond to children’s interests and questions.
Documentation
Documentation helps make children’s thinking and learning visible. Interns explore different ways of capturing and reflecting on children’s experiences.
Facilitation
With guidance from educators, interns begin facilitating small moments in the classroom such as story reading, circle time, or small group explorations.
Educator Workshops
Interns also participate in a series of educator workshops that introduce the philosophy and practices that guide our work.
- Reclaim Your Childhood – exploring the foundations of the Reggio Emilia approach and learning to design meaningful provocations
- Interpret the World – developing observation skills and understanding the many ways children express their ideas
You can learn more about the full workshop series on our Educator Workshops page.
